I was born and brought up on the beautiful Caribbean island of Trinidad in the West Indies. My Scottish father, also John, was a plant superintendant with the Oil Refinery on the island and my mom was Irish. This beautiful island, its incredible wildlife, multi cultures and the beat of calypso music, was my paradise home and the root of my compelling drive to explore and travel.
Living on this un-spoilt tropical island allowed me great freedom making the surrounding jungles, teaming with wildlife and pristine nature, my childhood playground. Camping out, being Tarzan, swimming in the rivers, fishing and hunting made it an open university for the understanding of this environment and the amazing secrets it held within.
The family returned to Ireland in the 60’s where I finished my schooling. My outdoor activities continued in this new environment, the weather being a bit cooler, but I enjoyed it all the same and every opportunity took me into the “land” which allowed me to experience first hand this new environment into which we had come to live.
A family man with five girls and one son, I live on the South East coast of Ireland in the small Viking town of Wexford, a quaint town with its narrow streets and historic buildings, fronting onto the River Slaney. This beautiful river begins its journey high in the Wicklow Mountains some seventy miles away and spills into the turbulent Irish Sea at Wexford.
Photography has always been my passion and it became my career choice. As a professional photographer for over three decades now, my camera has taken me too many exciting and beautiful parts of the world where the unexpected becomes the expected. I have been privileged to meet some amazing people and been witness to great happening in nature and wildlife.
Africa, South America, Mexico, Europe and of course the Caribbean were all adventure playgrounds for me, sometimes full of challenges but always pleasant discoveries, involving people, cultures, the environment and nature alike.
I have built this website and blog to introduce to you some of my current travel adventures with the aim of encouraging you to travel more with an open mind and to enjoy the many travel experiences.
